• Want to Help Out?

Anyone wishing to help sew, iron, fold, or sort fabric is invited to join us weekly on Thursdays and monthly on third Sundays. We encourage and help each other in the making of each item. The Stitchers members and volunteers have many shared years of experience and would love to have you come and join the fun and fellowship. No experience needed.

I have talked with so many people that would like to come and join us but live out of the area or even out of state. So here is what you can do should you have some spare time, blocks laying around, UFOs, etc. You can mail or ship them to us at Glen Allen Church, ATTN: Stitchers, 11064 Staples Mill Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060. We will be happy to complete them into finished quilts and donate them out. If you like making quilt tops and need a theme, we always need kids themed and especially young boys ages 5 to 12. Seems most ladies like to make girls quilts but least we forget that boys are in need too. If you need a tax donation letter please include that in the package. My heart felt thanks to those that have sent us quilt tops from TX and FL. Need more information, just email me at jnjotto@gamil.com or call direct to 804-556-3234, I have an answering machine so if leaving a msg. please talk slow as I listen slow🙂

Just when you think that you know most of areas with a need along comes a new one. We are making lap quilts for Inclusive Racing. This great group of volunteers forms teams that run with kids in wheelchairs. They compete in 5K, 10K, and longer races. The wheelchairs are specially constructed for holding kids as they are pushed very fast. The plan now is for 20 teams or so to compete in the Richmond Marathon. The quilts will be 100% cotton so they will be light weight and breath. What ever the child has on and over them has to go the distance. Check out their web site for more information. Go Racers.

To help kids understand that they are precious and will be cared for in a loving manner the Stitchers delivered 115 quilts to the VA Baptist Hospital’s, Child and Adolescent Psych Unit. We encourage others to help by donating stuffed toys, children’s books, and other needed items.

The Unit Manager, Stephanie Loveridge says they are looking for the following:
little girls and little boys underwear, sizes 6-14 and gently used or new pajama sets for little girls and boys, sizes 8-14. If you would like to help please call Stephanie at 434-420-0781. http://www.kidsgetbetter.com and stephanie.loveridge@centrahealth.com

New Year

We finished the year with some very good numbers for donated items:  Quilts 1062, wheelchair bags 1700, pillowcases and other items 2952.    Happy faces making and happy faces receiving.   During the year our numbers have ranged from 12 to 27 sewing on Thursdays and 5 to 10 sewing on the third Sunday afternoon sessions.   The plans for 2012:   have fun, teach some new methods, spend some time going over old rules for strip piecing and sewing on borders to keep everything even for the longarmer🙂
