A new Project for Us

Stitchers is now making special quilts for blind and sight challenged children.  Each quilt is 36 inch Sq. made with 9 different feeling fabrics, sorted colors, and most squares are embellished with some type of object such as a zipper, pad of different feeling substance, a child’s wash mitt, etc.   This allows the child to feel many surprising objects and cloth textures.    The backing is always total black so a brightly colored toy can be placed on the quilt for play by a child with may have some sight ability.  We all feel blissed that we can be a part of this great work.    For more information you can contact Tracy Deluca, Education Coordinator, Dept. for the Blind and Vision Impaired, 804-371-3102, WWW.vdbvi.org, or TGracy.Deluca@dbvi.virginia.gov.

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR THOSE THAT SEW AND HAVE UFOs

I have talked with so many people that would like to come and join us but live out of the area or even out of state. So here is what you can do should you have some spare time, blocks laying around, UFOs, etc. You can mail or ship them to us at Glen Allen Church, ATTN: Stitchers, 11064 Staples Mill Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060. We will be happy to complete them into finished quilts and donate them out. If you like making quilt tops and need a theme, we always need kids themed and especially young boys ages 5 to 12. Seems most ladies like to make girls quilts but least we forget that boys are in need too. If you need a tax donation letter please include that in the package. My heart felt thanks to those that have sent us quilt tops from TX and FL. Need more information, just email me at jnjotto@gmail.com or call direct to 804-556-3234, I have an answering machine so if leaving a msg. please talk slow as I listen slow 🙂

New Year

We finished the year with some very good numbers for donated items:  Quilts 1062, wheelchair bags 1700, pillowcases and other items 2952.    Happy faces making and happy faces receiving.   During the year our numbers have ranged from 12 to 27 sewing on Thursdays and 5 to 10 sewing on the third Sunday afternoon sessions.   The plans for 2012:   have fun, teach some new methods, spend some time going over old rules for strip piecing and sewing on borders to keep everything even for the longarmer 🙂
